Our Commitment to Families
Who are we?

Katie Verity and Claire Skyme, the founders of Navigating NonSENses, bring a combined 37 years of experience working within the SEND world. Their shared passion is to support children with additional needs and to make their journey through education easier and more positive. By helping children succeed, they also aim to bring peace of mind and stability to families, making everyday life a little brighter for everyone involved.

How do we support families?

We support families by fostering a community where everyone works together, parents, carers, and professionals alike. Our mission is to bring a network of experts together to provide support at every stage of a family's journey. Whether it's education, mental health, understanding your rights, or legal guidance, our goal is to find solutions and connect parents with the professionals who can truly make a difference.
We want to be there for you like a supportive hand, part of your team. Offering you a community of like-minded people who can share experiences and practical solutions. Our focus is on finding solutions together, helping you understand and navigate the SEND pathway with confidence and support.

“Not disengaged
— overwhelmed.”
How do we support you?

We offer information-sharing events through webinars and face-to-face meetings to support parents in navigating their child's SEND journey. Our aims are to:
1. Help parents and carers to understand the SEND process
2. Provide practical next steps and guidance
3. Support parents to speak up for their children
4. Bring parents together and connect them with trusted professionals
If a parent or carer feels they need more support, we also offer a free 15-minute phone call. This gives us time to listen, understand their situation, and help guide them to the right next steps.
Supporting Parents every step of the way
A Parents Story?

Many parents and carers feel alone, overwhelmed, and scared. They don’t know where to turn or who to ask for help. When you need support the most, it can feel like there is nowhere to go and that is frightening.

Parents often ask for help and are told it is not available, or that they must wait a very long time. SEND and mental health services are under huge pressure. Families are told they may have to wait up to two years for support, but children and families need help now. Waiting is not an option.
Many parents are told their child will not qualify for an EHCP, that there is no suitable school place for them, or that they may get into trouble if their child does not attend school. It can feel like a constant fight, with no clear way forward.

I have lived through these struggles myself for over 12 years, and I know I am not alone. That is why I believe so strongly in the power of community and working together.

We want to build a supportive network of parents and professionals who can share experiences, give guidance, and help find real solutions.

Our Mission

Core Values
Our core values

Our focus is helping children and families who are struggling, wherever they are on their SEND journey.
We are a warm and welcoming place where parents and carers will feel heard and never judged. You can come to us for real help, clear advice, and support you can trust.
We want to build a caring community where everyone works together, so children and families who feel confused or stuck in the school SEND system can get the help they need.

Aims
Our aim is to help parents and carers who feel lost in the school system, find the right people to support them through the SEND system, which can often feel confusing and overwhelming.
We only recommend professionals we know and trust, and who we work closely with. This means you can feel confident that you are getting good advice and the right support for your child and family.
We want to take away the stress of having to search through lots of different services and not knowing which ones you can rely on.
We also believe that support should be available to everyone. We work hard to make sure services are affordable and easy to access for all families.

Support

We know that mental health and education services are under a lot of pressure right now. Even so, we believe that by working together in a community, we can still make a real difference for families who need help.
We are here to walk alongside parents and carers. We help point you to the right services and resources, so you know what to do next.
Our aim is to give parents and carers the knowledge, understanding, and confidence they need to speak up for their children. We do this through meetings and webinars, and when more help is needed, we connect families with trusted professionals who can offer specialist support.

Lost in the system

We are passionate about finding solutions and bringing calm and clarity to a system that can feel confusing, intimidating, and overwhelming.
We want to take away feelings of fear and isolation and help parents understand and manage the rules and processes they face.
Our goal is to give every family clear information, support, and the confidence to move forward and speak up for their children.
